It is not biegni book to sprint through – the writing deserves better than that – but is also not a book to read in bits and pieces because it would become easy to miss some of the references back and forward across the the different parts.
I was recently made aware of a literary genre that is new to me: The Books of Jacob a Book of the Year!

One such is this that with a strange way talk about traveling, as we most imagine, or travel in a broader sense.

There are empty stories without a message, and on the other end of the scale, there are books that desperately try to convey a message at the expense of the story.
I found this book to be in the latter category. Inthe Polish version of the book won the Nike AwardPoland’s highest literary award. Can there be an in-between?
Vaeltajat Man Booker International Tales have a kind of inherent inertia that is impossible to fully control. My review, as well as my other thoughts on reading, also can be found on my blog. The writing is actually wonderful and you grasp the point almost immediately. Those who see life as a pilgrim journey. One is about Eryk, a ferry worker who goes off piste one day; another is about a woman whose husband is teaching on a cruise of the Greek islands. Tokarczuk makes a similarly strong link between travel around the world and the mapping of the human anatomy.
But those two move against the current, which is why they stand out the way they do. What they want is to create a frozen order, to falsify time’s passage.
Much of what is presented to the reader has been drained of blood, dissected out, beautifully preserved, bieguin put on display for careful inspection. Like short stories, the component chapters bbieguni best read in a single sitting. Particularly appreciated by the jury was Tokarczuk’s creation of literary bridges connecting people, generations and cultures, especially residents of the border territories of Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic, who have had often different existential and historical experiences.

I’m just old fashioned enough to like my meaning laced with a beginning, a middle, and an end, one or two characters, and a wacking good story. The book is filled with odd stories and even stranger characters.
It is a novel-kaleidoscope, structured through the fragments of the text, not linearly related, but while combined, the whole picture is shining trough. Through these brilliantly imagined characters and stories, interwoven with haunting, playful, and revelatory meditations, Tokarczuj explores what it means to be a traveler, a wanderer, a body in ttokarczuk not only through space but through time.
Whether or not this is tokarczkk novel is debatable. Given the nature of human psychological seeing things for what they are is often very tomarczuk if not impossible. In fact Olga Tokarczuk who is a clinical psychologist has written a coherent novel about everyman’s struggle to find direction in an unstructured reality.
